November 19, 2013, Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands – After meeting with the Northern Mariana Islands Volleyball Association (NMIVA) and spending several hours on site, NMIVA officials were proud to donate new volleyball equipment to Mount Carmel School and the Knights Volleyball Program. Earlier this month, MCS’s Teachers/Coaches Ms. Tomoko Shimizu, Mr. Francis San Nicolas and Mr. Joe Taijeron met with NMIVA representatives requesting support to enhance their Jr. High and High School volleyball teams as well as their physical education classes. In addition to her job at MCS, Ms. Shimizu is a member and volunteer with NMIVA. NMIVA immediately responded as Vice President & Director of Training Programs & Technical Development, Mr. Gabriel White, and NMIVA member and installation expert, Mr. Tyce Mister, made time to visit the Mount Carmel School campus. With the help of MCS maintenance, Mr. Danilo Chan, they installed a new volleyball net and presented 10 volleyballs courtesy of the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) and Japan Volleyball Association (JVA) Volleyball Bank, including 10 brand new Mikasa MVA200 official volleyballs for a total of 20 volleyballs. The equipment was made possible through the FIVB which granted NMIVA a Volleyball Cooperation Program Grassroots Course earlier this year. “NMIVA received several nets and volleyballs through the FIVB’s Grassroots VCP course” said Mr. White. “It’s a tremendous help for our developing national federation because thanks to the FIVB and the AVC we are able to reach out to schools in the Northern Mariana Islands who are not only in need, but have the passion to grow our sport of volleyball. One of NMIVA’s goals is to support all NMI schools with the necessary equipment to ‘keep the ball flying’." The donated equipment could not have come at a better time as it was presented just before the start of the private school boys’ volleyball game between MCS and Saipan International School. Present to receive their equipment from NMIVA officials were members of the Mount Carmel School boy’s and girl’s volleyball teams, their Coaches and MCS Vice-Principal for Curriculum and Instruction, Mr. Bobby Nelson Baldazo (see photos). NMIVA would like to thank all of the hard working Faculty and Staff from Mount Carmel School who made this possible. Special thanks to JVA President, Dr. Yuichiro Hamu, the JVA, AVC, its volleyball bank and the FIVB for their continued support to NMIVA. |
