McCullough-Stearns/Nekaifes and Lizama/Gechig continue to rule the beach

Sunday, April 7, 2012, Fiesta Resort & Spa, Garapan, Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands --- Northern Mariana Islands Volleyball Association (NMIVA) in partnership with FIVB, Fiesta Resort & Spa and DoCoMo Pacific held a juniors beach volleyball training tournament for the last day of a five day training course. The training tournament was free of charge and open to the public. A total 28 players came out to field eight men's teams and six women's teams. 

Registration was at 8:30am and games started at 9:30am. The first half of the day was pool play where the women played one pool of six teams where Chen Knol (Charnessa "Chenny" Lizama and Knohlynn Gechig) dominated with five wins and zero losses followed by I'd Hit That (Jian Joyner and Melody Johnson) with four wins and one loss. The men played two pools of four where Priviet (Clay McCullough-Stearns and John Joseph Nekaifes) dominated one pool and It Doesn't Matter (Andrew Johnson and Jesse Laniyo) dominated the other. After a short lunch break teams were seeded into double elimination brackets. All teams advanced from pool play.

In double elimination for the women, Chen Knohl continued to dominate all the way through to take first place. I'd Hit That fell into the losers bracket in the semi-finals and beat Sprinkles (Tracy W. Pelep and Shanna Moe Flores) 21-10 to meet back up with Chen Knohl for a second place finish. In the men's division, Priviet similarly dominated all the way through to first place after defeating Nets (Stacy Escreta and Bryan Shawn Daria) in the final match. Nets took out It Doesn't Matter 21-17 putting It Doesn't Matter in third place after a neck in neck battle with Priviet through the top half of the bracket.

McCullough-Stearns/Nekaifes and Lizama/Gechig were the champions in this year's Marianas Junior Cup, which was held February 16-17, 2013 as the kick off event to the 2013 Marianas Cup Beach Volleyball Festival. McCullough-Stearns/Nekaifes were also accepted to play University Games this summer in Kazan Russia, July 5 - 17. This will be the first time CNMI-NMIVA beach volleyball players will have participated in the University Games.
