The Kids Cup event consists of 17U and 13U co-ed divisions. Both Guam and Saipan holds individual separate Kids Cups events as part of the total Marianas Cup Beach Volleyball Festival. The Kids Cups are the third event in a series of back-to-back weekends that begin with the Junior Cup (19U) and followed by the Pro Am Cup (+16) when local amateurs pair with US and Japanese professional players. The principle concept of the Kids Cup is to get our young players accustomed to playing competitively in a festival type environment. This event is the icing on the cake for them after Fall and Spring seasons of twice weekly trainings and a total of six end of month practice tournaments. Generally, standard FIVB beach volleyball rules apply for the 17U while the 13U are giving special advantages such as second chances at serves, serving closer to the net and scoring additional points for a full 3-touches by a team. This year, the 17U division saw 60 players and 13 teams while the 13U saw 63 players and 12 teams topping 2013's record by just three players. The event took place at the venue of our year round ever supportive sponsor Fiesta Resort & Spa beach side. Japanese pros training in Saipan for the last three weeks played one exhibition match for spectators and players while youth players waited for the results of their pool play matches, which started at 9am and finished around 1:30pm. All teams advance in to the Double Elimination brackets that started at 2pm and finished around 5:30pm! First place winners all received brand new volleyballs sponsors by CNMI Division of Youth Services, Department of Cultural and Community Affairs. Subway Saipan sponsored sandwich gift certificates for first through fourth place while I Love Saipan sponsored t-shirts for the same. Scoops provided ice cream coupons for our third and fourth place winners. |
