Nine ladies teams and six men's teams competed in NMIVA's For the Love of Volleyball at the Hyatt Regency Saipan beach last weekend in Saipan's warm up doubles event.  For those unfamiliar this is a small local event for those looking for a practice competition warming up to the Marianas ProAm Cup later this month. Check out Marianas Cup Beach Volleyball Festival

Coming in first place in the ladies division, team MmmmmChhhmmmchhh the duo of Christen Steinkuller who retains her championship title from last year with her new partner, Athena Andrews (in picture). A great pair with Andrews having been NMSA's volleyball athlete of the month last October. The two will be competing together at the end of this month in Guam at the Marianas Cup Beach Volleyball Festival's ProAm Open. Second place went to Cupid's Minions, a repeat favorite pair - Charness "Chenny" Lizama and Toni Kasilyn Yamada who are also seeking entry to the ProAm Open. Third place went to MHS coach Kathy Winkfield who partnered with Sabrina Pangelinan as the Dolphin Duo.

Dominating in the men's division were Jeff Carlucci and Tyler Willsey (in picture) who paired as Lickity Split and had no losses all the way through to take first place. Both Carlucci and Willsey will be playing in the ProAm Open too, but with different partners. Second place went to a pair of favorites, Russ Quinn and Tyce Mister, playing as the Old Yellers.  Finishing up at third place were brothers Larry and Youme Sharry playing as the Managaha Chiefs! All of the mens' teams will be going to Guam at the end of the month.

A HUGE thank you to our event host Hyatt Regency Saipan and their staff. Also a big thanks to Tyce Mister and crew for court maintenance and set up. Thanks to our very special volleyball heros Amie McRoberts, Anna Yamada and their volunteer crew for running registration, games and prizes.
